Description

Job Summary

The Senior/Cost Accountant reports to the Director of Finance and works closely with all departments and team members to achieve organizational goals. This position requires proactive interaction across the organization as well as precise, detailed, hands-on work. The Senior/Cost Accountant performs all day-to-day cost accounting and reimbursement estimate functions and produces financial information in an accurate and timely manner.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide day to day subject matter expertise regarding FHN’s cost accounting, budget management reporting and planning software systems (collectively “Decision Support” systems.
  • Oversee the ongoing development and maintenance of FHN’s Decision Support systems and processes.
  • Monitor and analyze reimbursements by payer class and prepare and record monthly allowance estimates on accounts receivable.
  • Prepare and record monthly estimates of liabilities to third party payers.
  • Prepare and analyze all supporting documentation for annual cost report filings.
  • Prepare all CMS wage index, occupational mix, and geographic reclassification filings.
  • Stay current on legislative changes that impact reimbursement.
  • Update and maintain fixed asset accounts in general ledger and fixed asset accounting software.
  • Update and maintain leased asset accounts in general ledger and lease accounting software.
  • Maintain detailed and well-organized supporting documentation for all financial transactions.
  • Key contact for all third-party payer audits.
  • Assists with preparation of the annual budgets.
  • Assist with year-end close and audit activities.
  • Assist with accurate and timely completion and filing of IRS returns.
  • Provide assistance and backup support to other Senior Accountants.
  • Respond to special ad hoc requests and assignments as assigned.
  • Prepare and file annual property tax and sales tax exemption renewals.

Qualifications

  • At least five years of broad accounting experience with increasing responsibilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or other relevant field (or equivalent employment and learning
  • experience)
  • CPA preferred
  • Prior 501(c)(3) and/or 501(c)(4) nonprofit accounting experience preferred
  • Experience with Meditech and Strata Jazz (or similar software systems) preferred

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or other relevant field (or equivalent employment and learning experience)

Required Experience: 5-8 years accounting experience in the health care industry. Cost accounting and payor reimbursement analysis experience a strong plus.
